A joint council meeting of Victoria and Saanich is scheduled for later today and one Victoria Councillor says he will be urging his colleagues to “think big and dream big.”

Ben Isitt says he will be urging joint action on a master plan to develop what he calls “Midtown,” the area around the Douglas corridor where the two municipalities meet.

Isitt says he feels the term “Douglas Street corridor” is too limited geographically, and should instead include surrounding areas.

Isitt says the area, which is currently home to a number of strip-malls, car lots, and single storey buildings, could be better used as high density residential and commercial developments with room for green space and rapid transit.

The two councils will meet at Saanich Municipal Hall at 4pm this afternoon.
